High Resolution Tamriel map (Elder Scrolls series) by Belhene High Resolution Tamriel map (Elder Scrolls series) by Belhene
DESCRIPTION
*************************************************
This is a -very- high resolution map of Tamriel from the Elder Scrolls game series. I made it in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

I priorized aesthetics over detailed information, so I left out rivers, small villages, and mountains' and forests' names (it was meant to be hung on my bedroom wall as a big nice map, and definitely not to be used as a source of information while playing the games).

The text included is the foreword elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Po… of the fictional book "Pocket Guide to the Empire, Third Edition", from the games. This map is supposed to be part of the book and as such, it is signed by the organisation which wrote the book (the Imperial Geographic Society). The date is the (fictional) date the book was published. (Nerd much?)
Please tell me if you spot any mistakes in this text. Although I copied it from the wiki, I may have deleted a character by mistake, since the font behaved kind of glitchy sometimes.

I used the original map images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/… as a base layer to redraw borders, mountains and forests. Everything that was in the original map was redrawn pixel by pixel. I could have done mountains and forests differently, but I wanted to keep the style, so those things look the same, only in much, much higher resolution. Oh, and the font used for labels and the map title is the original.

I added data which wasn't included in the original map, such as oceans, seas and small islands that were not labeled. There were also some islands who didn't even appear in the original map, so I drew them from scratch.

I replaced those dull city dots with a nice town icon from this awesome set starraven.deviantart.com/art/C… by StarRaven.

The Elder Scrolls Universe, all its locations and names belong to Bethesda. The text also belongs to Bethesda. Commercial use of this piece is prohibited by law and all that legal mumbo jumbo. You MAY NOT sell this as your own piece of art or make money off it in any way. This map is fanart, and it was made to be printed as a PERSONAL print (I made it to hang on my bedroom wall). I may not sell it either, so please don't ask for DA prints :)

2. Artist (me)

I shared this so that other enthusiastic Elder Scrolls fans could get their own personal prints of a nice Tamriel map in high resolution as I did.

Even though Bethesda owns the series, names, etc., I DID NOT share this so that you can slightly modify it and upload it to DeviantArt or wherever as if it were an original piece of work of yours. If you want to edit it for whatever reason for a private personal print, just don't upload the edited version as if it were something new you made. I hope you understand.

If you see this somewhere else being claimed by someone as their own, please, notify me by PM. I will mention it in here if I upload this to another site (and if I do it, it will probably be under the name "Belhene", "Sophia" or "SophiaBP"). It is currently only here on DeviantArt.

Of course, you are very welcome to feature it in DeviantArt groups, a blog, a wiki, or whatever as long as you credit me (with a link back here or my DeviantArt profile). And please let me know you uploaded it and where to. I want to know where my stuff is!

This is a very nice piece, i love how you replaced the dots for the city locations, and the Pocket Guide of the Empire text is also a nice addition!

The only thing that bugs me is the font you used for the text, i find it very thin and difficult to read, even after zooming.

nothing else to add exept that, just like BaldwinVerhoeven, I'd love to have this as a poster on my wall ^^

Thanks!

I used the original font to keep the original feel to it (or something) =P

Hey dude/girl,

First of all: wow wow wow
This map is just sooo amazing :o it really brings up the TES ethos, wonderful!!

Now my question, if I just save this with paint as a .jpg and take this to a printing center, will they be able to make a decent poster of it? Or will the image become blurry then? What is the max. size you recommend?

Greetings, and congrats again!!

Thanks!

The real size (and max size you can get without things becoming blurry) is 120 x 75 cm (or 47.24 x 29.52 inches / 7087 x 4429 pixels), 150 DPI. You should use the PNG file to avoid compression when saving as JPG and thus quality loss (unless you know what you're doing). You need to give them the exact size; they will tell you which paper types they can print it on according to sheet or roll size (they will crop it with a paper cutter afterwards if the sheet is larger).

Thanks for the info :)

A bit too late thou haha,
I saved your image as a pdf an brought it to the shop, where they told me the pixels were too low for a decent poster, so they printed it on A2 format
Which is still pretty big, nice and cool ^^

Hi !

We have used your map. In presentation of our game. It is just example map untill we will do something on our own.
It is not edited. And we have added link under video to your deviantpage. It will be no longer available in beta version of the game.
But like i sayed we have needed it to present our game.

I'm hoping you will not be mad about this. If yes just write me at dfurman.art@gmail.com and i will erase that video.

By the way.
You are great artist.
D.

I am a Reddit Secret Santa, and my giftee is really into Skyrim. I was searching for the most beautiful map I could find, and this one is simply elegant and amazing! I plan to frame it and send it as my main SS gift. I see that you can't sell this, and I am certainly downloading it for a gift, but I would really like to include your artist information with the gift so that you are credited for this most excellent work! I barely come on dA now that I
've retired from tattooing, but if you wouldn't mind, will you let me know just how you would like to be represented as the artist? If I can't pay you for this, maybe I could make some art and gift it to you?

Thanks so much for this! I now have it printed on canvas-like paper and framed for use on my bedroom wall, right next to the map of Middle Earth. Prettiest poster I have. :)

This is so beautiful! It reminds me of a Map of Middle-earth I have. But why didn't you correct the mistakes in Skyrim? Whiterun is on the other side of the Throat of the World, it doesn't have Morthal, and Markarth is almost in Morthal's spot. Why did they do that on the original? (It's not you, it's them).

oh, oops, never mind about sales, just read the TOS again. What size did you print this as? Looking at pixel conversion leads me to roughly 24in x 15in at 300dpi. Does that sound right?

I'm not very fast at mental calc, and I don't normally use inches, lol, so in cm, it would be 100 cm (width) x 70 cm (height)

:iconszaszati:
szaszati Featured By Owner Oct 27, 2014
That comes at ~180 DPI. Is that still good quality? If calculating at 300 DPI, it would make a 60x37,5 cm print.
